Good deed: weakness or strength?

Hi,

Did you know that February 17 was Random Acts of Kindness Day, celebrated mostly in the United States, but also in other countries around the world?

A skeptic might say: what are “they” up to?

Who “they” are is not clear in the minds of those skeptics. In this case, the day is believed to have been popularized in a big way by the Random Acts of Kindness Day foundation, which encourages people to practice kindness in random and unexpected ways.

Personally, I admire these people with vision, who look beyond the everyday and see a better world, where each of us is willing to help someone we don’t know, to offer a compliment, to smile at people we meet.

Let’s be honest with ourselves. We live in a cynical world where kindness is considered a weakness, where everyone tries to rise above the crowd for money and fame, where acts of kindness are done only for self-interest, for an ulterior gain. There are exceptions, of course, but the majority tend towards this behavior.

I believe that kindness is an extraordinary power and is 100% within our reach. It’s not a weakness to be kind, to help a stranger, to smile, it shows real strength of character. It shows that you are sure of yourself and do not fall prey to vanity and ignorance.

As I said, I admire those who come up with such an initiative, visionaries for a better world.

But I would go further and ask:

Why one day?

Why not every day?

Why not celebrate this day 365 days a year?

What about you?

Water at the roots

I recently watched part of an interview with Rareș Prisecariu, a brilliant 10-year-old child with an extraordinary maturity in both his thinking and the way he speaks. At one point, he said a sentence that made me stop everything I was doing: “My mother is the water at my roots.” How beautiful and expressive. My […]

We wear masks

Have you noticed we tell stories all the time? Our brain is a drama-obsessed screenwriter. It writes scripts, screenplays, daily mini-series in which we are the hero, the victim, the moralist and the savior. They say, “If you could see yourself through other people’s eyes…” Or, “If you could see yourself as I see you, […]

Why do we love traveling?

A few days ago, my girlfriend asked me a question that really got me thinking: Why do most people have such an attraction to traveling? What do we actually get out of it? An interesting question, one I hadn’t thought of before from this angle. I took for granted that we all like to travel. […]
