Ever thought that silence is louder than any conversation?
I don’t remember if I read it or heard it somewhere, but this thought came to me and I thought about it.
That’s right! Quietly you start to hear yourself.
This is when you listen to your thoughts, and not one, but many at the same time. An amalgam of emotions and feelings that are often louder than a scream!
Of course, here we are talking about more naughty thoughts: of guilt, of failures, of unfinished conversations, of what I could have done differently. They come with an excitement, an unpleasant warmth, maybe even palpitations. They come with insomnia and nervousness. And our body generates those neurotransmitters that are not good for us when they’re released in large quantities.
Check it out! Try it now!
If you are not very used to that meditation where you can empty your mind of thoughts, then you will find that as you relax, a tsunami of mixed thoughts will come pouring in: regrets, actions you wanted to do but couldn’t for various reasons, successes, successes or failures, words heard from loved ones, colleagues or bosses, speeches to yourself for unfinished discussions in which you wanted to say so many things…
They all overwhelm you at the same time. You try to push them away, but they come back.
When you come back to a conversation or get caught up in an intense activity, your thoughts sit quietly on the back bench and are silent. They wait for the quiet to quiet down and raise their hand, to come out to the chalkboard. They sit impatiently, full of trepidation.
Now, knowing this very well, I was thinking: what could I do?
Meditation is excellent, but it takes a lot of practice. It’s the quiet time when thoughts surface very easily and requires sustained effort to disperse them. Yogis recommend concentrating on the breath, an elegant way of channeling the mind to one thing, drowning out other thoughts.
To cancel a negative thought either mentally or even with a wave of the hand. These thoughts accumulate in a personal egregor if left unattended. Don’t let them accumulate! You can even use the words “cancel”, addressed to the Universe, the egregor, to purge those negative thoughts.
Turn the thought into something positive. Immediately think of something beautiful that brings a smile to your lips. And smile. [Laughs] Yes! Really smile. Replace that negative emotion with a positive one. Sit in that positive energy for a while and charge yourself with that light.
Another thing that works for me is free writing, no form, no filter, just to let the thoughts flow. It’s a download.
You could try a warm bath with soothing music or a walk with just you.
And perhaps most simply: count breaths. Inhale… exhale… Five minutes. Ten. Take your time.
You’ll notice that thoughts come back, but in between… a space opens up. In that space is the silence that no longer screams.
Silence is no longer noisy!
These are some of the methods I use. If you know other methods, share them with us.
A day with beautiful and bright thoughts!
