I frequently hear statements like: “life is not fair” or “fate is cruel” and many other variations on the same theme.<\/p>\n\n
I’m not going to tell you it isn’t. I don’t want to come up with all that therapeutic advice like “what is it about your current situation that makes you feel that life isn’t fair?” or the even more popular “he who suffers on earth will be happy in the afterlife.”<\/p>\n\n
I want to go deeper and peel back the layers of preconceptions to understand what lies behind these words.<\/p>\n\n
In a dialog between two people, one person says “of” (a setback in life, a material or relationship loss, a failed promotion, etc.) and concludes that life is not fair, and the other person nods affirmatively and wisely, knowing all too well “the truth.” Everyone <\/em>knows that life is not fair.<\/p>\n\n At least that’s how we’ve been programmed to think. But even though I give this program a negative connotation, maybe that’s not entirely the wrong approach. <\/p>\n\n More often than not, the statement “life is not fair” expresses a state of resignation. We know that life is unfair and we cannot control our fate. So we accept the situation as it is, resign ourselves and try to move on. It’s a great way to protect ourselves mentally, to cope with crisis situations, especially in the case of loss. It’s much easier to get through a crisis when someone else is at the helm of the ship of your life and the only thing you can do is to be a windward traveler. <\/p>\n\n How would you feel if you were convinced that you were the ship’s captain’s mate?<\/strong> What would it be like to know that much of the failure, deprivation, loss of relationship, etc. is partly the result of past decisions or words casually thrown around?<\/p>\n\n The pain will certainly be deeper, but it will be met with much greater responsibility.<\/p>\n\n I recently read the<\/em> book The Holographic Universe<\/em> by Michael Talbot. The book addresses a relatively recent concept that offers a new perspective on reality, drawing on ideas from quantum physics and neuroscience. The book explores the connections between mind, reality and the fundamental nature of the universe, and offers pertinent theories to explain a myriad of topics that preoccupy the minds of scientists, from the Big Bang theory to paranormal phenomena. <\/p>\n\n Of course, I can’t summarize Michael Talbot’s conclusions in a few lines, so I recommend that you read the book with an open mind.<\/p>\n\n I want to touch on just a few aspects of the book The Holographic Universe<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n We live in an explicated order<\/em> (I hope this is the correct translation), in which our ordinary notions of space and time, as well as those of elementary particles, are abstracted as derivative forms of the implicate order<\/em>, a deeper and more fundamental level of reality, where time and space are not determinants. There are also an infinite number of implicate orders, representing different levels of interconnectedness and potentiality. <\/p>\n\n According to Michael Talbot’s ideas, human consciousness can play a role in altering or influencing the order involved. He suggests that our perception and our consciousness can affect how we experience reality and how it manifests itself in our explained world. Consciousness can thus be considered an active factor in the process of co-creating reality.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n Reality-creating consciousness is not a new concept, but a fundamental one in quantum physics. Moreover, philosophically and spiritually, the concept is present in many cultures, expressed in various forms. <\/p>\n\n Returning to the theme of the present article, when reflecting on the idea that ‘life is not fair’, it is essential to understand that we have some control over how we understand and respond to perceived injustices. The ideas explored in the book Holographic Universe<\/em> challenge us to reconsider how our consciousness shapes reality. If we are indeed co-creators of our experiences, then there are some practical steps we can take to better navigate life’s challenges. <\/p>\n\n Accepting and Taking Responsibility<\/strong>. The first step is accepting the reality that we can’t control everything in life, but we can control how we react to circumstances. Although it can be hard to digest the fact that certain failures and difficulties are influenced by our past decisions, taking responsibility is a powerful act of liberation. <\/p>\n\n Applying the Control Dichotomy<\/strong>. According to Stoic philosophy, the control dichotomy can help us navigate through life more effectively. It involves clearly differentiating between things we can control and things we cannot. In concrete terms, we can only control our own thoughts, reactions and actions. It is therefore useful to focus our efforts on improving the things that are within our control, rather than expending energy on external and unpredictable circumstances. <\/p>\n\n Creating a New Perspective<\/strong>. It is essential to change the way we perceive the unfairness of life. Instead of feeling victimized by circumstances, see ourselves as active participants in our own existence. By accepting that we can influence the way we respond to challenges, we can move away from a mindset of resignation to one of action and responsibility. <\/p>\n\n Recognizing that life is not fair is a starting point for profound transformation. Realizing that we can play an active role in shaping our reality, we take responsibility for how we react to circumstances and become aware of our power to influence the course of life. Stoic philosophy and the ideas of the Holographic Universe<\/em> provide us with a valuable framework for navigating life’s injustices, helping us to take on the role of co-creators of our own existence. <\/p>\n\n So instead of being stuck in resignation and discontent, we can choose to look at life with a new sense of responsibility and optimism.
