Last week I suggested exploring forgiveness <\/strong>in its deepest version, when it has a transformative effect both physically and mentally – a true alchemy of body and mind.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Some time ago, I participated at the Palace Hall to the dialogue between Prof. Dr. Dumitru Constantin Dulcan, a well-known Romanian neurologist, psychiatrist and author, famous for his book Intelligence of Matter<\/em>, and Neale Donald Walsch, author of the series Conversations with God<\/em>. Many interesting topics were discussed, but I would like to draw out just one: forgiveness<\/strong> – a simple word, but a vast territory where science, psychology and spirituality dance together. <\/p>\n\n

Dr. Dulcan approaches forgiveness from a neuroscientific perspective, but with an obvious metaphysical overture. In his view, forgiveness is not only a moral act but also a biological necessity. Resentment, hatred, thoughts of revenge generate chronic stress that releases cortisol – a hormone that weakens the immune system and over time affects physical health. Forgiveness, on the other hand, rebalances the nervous system, bringing a state of inner peace that can be measured in physiological parameters. <\/p>\n\n

For Dr. Dulcan, thought is a form of energy, and forgiveness – a way in which we transform negative energy into beneficial energy. Unforgiveness traps the mind in a toxic loop, while forgiveness is the ultimate act of liberation. It is not only a gift offered to another, but also a process of sanitizing one’s own mental and emotional field. <\/p>\n\n

In Neale Donald Walsch’s view, forgiveness has a profound metaphysical connotation. In his dialogues with the Divine, Walsch conveys that forgiveness is not necessary in the traditional sense. To forgive, according to the author, is to transcend the illusion of duality – good\/evil, victim\/offender – and return to a consciousness of oneness. It is not about excusing a behavior, but about understanding that it is all part of a cosmic play in which everyone plays roles for the evolution of the soul. In this sense, forgiveness becomes a form of remembrance of the divine nature of the human being. <\/p>\n\n

The first conclusion<\/strong> I drew from listening to these two famous authors is that both see forgiveness as an act of liberation, not necessarily a moral concession. They both recognize the harmful effects of unforgiveness on health – be it the energy field or the nervous system. Forgiveness is a form of holistic healing. <\/p>\n\n

The second conclusion<\/strong> is that the greatest effect of forgiveness is on you, on your own body and psyche. This was best captured by Dr. Costin D\u0103m\u0103\u0219aru, in one of his podcasts, “When you forgive, you actually allow yourself to move on”, highlighting the profoundly transformative power of forgiveness. Forgiveness is not just an act of generosity towards the wrongdoer, but above all a personal healing process. <\/p>\n\n

The third conclusion<\/strong> is that most of the time when you truly forgive, you forgive yourself. I think this is the hardest forgiveness – forgiving yourself. You cannot trick the brain with mere words. It’s not enough to say “I forgive you”; you need to feel it, you need forgiveness to be accompanied by genuine <\/strong>and deep emotion <\/strong>. Only then does it have a transformative effect – a true alchemy of soul and body.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n

In essence, forgiveness is an act of self-compassion, giving us the chance to rebuild ourselves and regain our inner balance. It is a process that requires courage and introspection, but it has significant benefits for mental and emotional health. <\/p>\n\n

Now, I have an exercise for you. Yes, for you!<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n

I have three steps I’d like you to follow:<\/p>\n\n

    \n
  1. Think about what you would like to forgive yourself for.<\/strong> Leave others for the moment and focus on yourself. What are the deeds, the words, the supposed wrongs for which you need forgiveness? Think hard! It’s not easy to find them, but seek them honestly. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Once found, put it on paper<\/strong>, for your eyes only. These are strictly personal matters and only you need to forgive yourself, not anyone else. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Say out loud:<\/strong> “I forgive myself for…”<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n

    Smile!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

    Try it and tell me how you feel.<\/p>\n\n

    A day of wisdom!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n
